Why you can trust PetsInMyCity

Pet owners come to us during stressful, important moments. We take that seriously. This page explains, in plain language, exactly how we work, how we earn, and the promises we keep to you.

Our trust promise

PetsInMyCity exists to help you make smarter, calmer decisions for the pets you love. We put pet owners first — before advertisers, before rankings, and before any link we might earn from. Trust comes before monetization, and education comes before sales. We aim to earn your trust every single day, and this page is here so you never have to guess how we operate.

How we create content

Everything we publish is created for pet owners first. We write in plain, honest language, we explain the "why" behind our guidance, and we keep accuracy front and center. We review content as best practices change, we avoid fear-based or hype-driven language, and when something is uncertain we say so rather than overstate it. For the full detail on how we research, write, review, update, and correct our work, see our Editorial Standards.

How Lucy works

Lucy is our AI pet assistant. She is built to educate first, help you understand your situation, point you to trusted local services and useful tools, and recognize urgent situations so she can route them to a professional. Lucy asks clarifying questions when she needs them and keeps a warm, steady, non-judgmental tone. Importantly, Lucy is not a salesperson, not a diagnostician, and not a replacement for your veterinarian.

AI transparency

We are open about where AI is involved. Lucy is clearly an AI assistant, and AI may help us draft or organize information elsewhere on the site. AI assists; people provide oversight, especially on anything related to health and safety. We design Lucy to avoid guessing — when she is unsure or a question goes beyond what she should answer, she says so and points you to a better source rather than inventing an answer.

Product recommendation policy

We recommend products based on usefulness and fit for your situation — never because one option pays us more. The highest-paying choice is never automatically the one we suggest. When we recommend something, we try to explain why it fits, and we are comfortable telling you when a cheaper option, a different product, or no purchase at all is the better call.

Affiliate disclosure

Affiliate relationships keep PetsInMyCity free for pet owners. Some links on our site are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small referral fee if you buy through them. You never pay more because of an affiliate link, and these relationships never decide what we recommend. If we earn from a link, our recommendation still has to stand on its own usefulness.

Local resource accuracy

Our local results are powered by trusted data sources to help you find nearby pet services. Real-world details like hours, availability, and contact information can change quickly, so we always encourage you to confirm directly with a business before relying on it — especially in an emergency. If you spot local information that looks wrong or out of date, please tell us so we can fix it.

Privacy & data use

We respect your privacy and only use information in ways that help us serve you better. We never request or store sensitive financial or identity data, and we are careful about what we collect and how it is used. For the full detail, read our Privacy Policy.

Corrections policy

We get things wrong sometimes, and when we do we want to fix them quickly and openly. If you find an error — in an article, a tool, a local listing, or something Lucy said — let us know and we will review it. Meaningful corrections to published content are made promptly. You can read more about our process in our Editorial Standards.

Veterinary safety disclaimer

PetsInMyCity provides general educational information only. It is not veterinary advice and is not a substitute for professional care. Only a licensed veterinarian who has examined your pet can diagnose or treat a medical condition. If your pet is showing signs of a serious problem or you think this may be an emergency, contact your veterinarian or a nearby emergency clinic right away. Our Pet Emergency Planner can help you prepare in advance.
